My trip to Hawaii

This January, my family and I went on a vacation to Hawaii. Neither my brother, Ben, nor I had ever been to Hawaii before, so we were very excited to go. This vacation was during Ben and I’s winter breaks from college. It was kind of a last hurrah before my brother graduated college and became a “real adult.” We went for about a week and a half at the beginning of January. We first flew to Oahu, and then after a few days flew to Maui. This trip was an amazing experience that I am so thankful I got to experience with my family.

Oahu

We arrived in Oahu in the late afternoon. I was so amazed by the beauty of Hawaii! We checked into our hotel and walked to dinner at a restaurant with live Hawaiian music.

Our first full day we went on a Pearl Harbor tour which was really educational but also fun. That evening we went out on a boat to watch fireworks over the city.

The next day we took a full-day Jeep tour around the whole island. We had our own personal tour guide who was very knowledgeable of the island. That day we stopped at a little shrimp shack for lunch and had the best shrimp of our lives!

The next day we drove around the island more and then went to the Dole Plantation and had Dole Whip (like pineapple ice cream). We only spent a few days on Oahu but they were packed full of fun!

Maui

When we landed in Maui we checked into our hotel, Kaanapali Shores. It was really cool that we stayed at this hotel because it is where my parents stayed when they went to Hawaii about 25 years ago. The hotel was so beautiful and was right off the beach!

Our first evening in Maui we went to Old Lahaina Luau. While it was a very cliche and touristy thing to do… it was one of my favorite parts of the whole trip! The luau had hula dancers and tons of good food.

The next day we went to the beach and snorkeled. I had never snorkeled before and I ended up loving it! We just snorkeled off the beach that day so we just saw lots of fish, no sea turtles.

However, the next day we went on a snorkeling boat that took us to a cove full of sea creatures! From the boat we saw dolphins and whales, and then while snorkeling we saw tons of different types of fish, and a handful of sea turtles! Snorkeling was so much fun and something that I will never forget.

The next day we went on a whale watching boat. Winter in Hawaii is whale season so we saw lots of whales. That afternoon we drove up to the top of Haleakala, a volcano, and did some hiking.

The next day we went on ziplines from Kapalua Ziplines. The ziplines were so much fun and we saw some great sights!

On our last day in Hawaii, we went down on a submarine and saw fish and little sharks, then went to the Maui aquarium.

When it was time to go home I was so sad to leave. I had the time of my life in Hawaii, and hope to go back someday. I am so thankful to my parents for taking me on this trip, and I am so glad that I got to experience it with my three favorite people in the whole world.
